On March 23, 2012, Lionsgate released a film adaptation of THE HUNGER GAMES, directed by Gary Ross who also shared screenplay credit with Suzanne and Billy Ray. Lionsgate released the second installment THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE worldwide on November 22, 2013, directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy and Michael DeBruyn and bringing back stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Willow Shields, Paula Malcomson, Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz along with new cast members Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone and Jeffrey Wright. It was the highest-grossing domestic box office release of 2013 and the 10th highest-grossing domeAHlcstic release of all time.

On November 21, 2014, Lionsgate released THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1. The film went to the No. 1 spot during its opening weekend with a $273.8 million worldwide gross, becoming the biggest opening of 2014 and marking The Hunger Games film series as the only franchise to have three films earn over $100 million in a weekend. The film earned over $755 million worldwide, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2014 and the second-highest-grossing entry in The Hunger Games series.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2 was released on November 20, 2015. The film grossed over $653 million worldwide and was positively received by critics for its performances, screenplay, and action sequences. The film had garnered a nomination for Best Fantasy Film at the 42nd Saturn Awards. For her part, Jennifer Lawrence was awarded as the Favorite Movie Actress at the 2016 Kids' Choice Awards and Best Hero at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.
